Hypercalcaemia, Anemia and platelets in Breast cancer.

Abstract

Objective: To observe the level of serum total calcium, ionized calcium, protein,
hemoglobin and platelet counts in breast cancer patients.
Subjects and Methods: Fifty patients with breast cancer were included in the study.
Twenty normal subjects with no history of cancer or any disease related to calcium were
taken as controls. Serum calcium, protein, hemoglobin and platelet count were measured.
Results: Serum calcium and platelet count were increased, serum proteins were
decreased while no change in hemoglobin were noted.
Conclusion: Serum Calcium and platlets were found to be elevated in patients with
breast cancer. (Rawal Med J 2008;33:3-4).
