Background: The hepatitis B and C can be transmitted in beauty salons, through the use and sharing of materials with sharp objects.
Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted as part of an ongoing trial to assess the seroepidemiological profile (for hepatitis B and C) in manicures and pedicures (n = 30) from salons of the city of Maceió, Brazil. Moreover assess their knowledge about these diseases and biosecurity practices used (Ethical Review number,175261138.00000039).
Results: The results showed that 60% of the participants were between 26 and 40 years of age, among these, 65% say having done vocational college and 53.34% completed high school. With respect to the research of hepatitis B and C in these individuals, have not been found serological markers for these viruses in no professional evaluated. With regard to vaccination status, only 50% of volunteers vaccinated for hepatitis B were immunized. With respect to the transmission of these diseases, 70% of individuals had no knowledge about this. On Biosafety assessment, 80% were not sterilization process control and 50% of them used personal protective equipment.
Conclusion: It can be concluded that these professionals need to be made aware about biosecurity for the professional exercise and about the importance of immunization and examination of anti-HBS as a form of prevention for hepatitis B.
