A study to assess the knowledge of mothers regarding care of low birth weight babies in Narayana Medical College Hospital, Nellore.

Abstract

A low birth weight infant is defined as a live born infant weighing less than 2500 gm at birth. This study is done to assess the knowledge of mothers regarding care of low birth weight babies in Narayana medical college hospital, Nellore. Quantitative research approach and descriptive research design are used to conduct the study among 30 mothers of low birth weight babies selected by Convenience sampling technique.Data was collected by using questionnaire.The data was analyzed by using descriptive and inferential statistics. Out of 30 mothers 12(40%) mothers had average knowledge, 16(53.3%) mothers had inadequate knowledge and 2(6.7%) of mothers had adequate knowledge regarding care of low birth weight babies.study concluded that educational program must to be organized or prevention of low birth weight babies to improve the knowledge of mothers.
