Domestic violence on women.

Abstract

Domestic violence refers to the physical, emotional, and sexual abuse of a spouse or domestic partner. NIMH(2009) reports that around the world, at least 1 in 3 women will either be physically or sexually abused during her lifetime and in India, one-third of women age 15-49 have experienced physical violence and about 1 in 10 have
experienced sexual violence and 27 percent say that the perpetrator of the violence was a relative.
The aim of the study to determine the prevalence of Domestic Violence among female caregiver of mentally ill patient attending psychiatric Outpatient Department in
Narayana General Hospital, Nellore.
Quantitative research approach and non experimental descriptive survey approach was adopted for the study which was conducted in psychiatric outpatient department in Narayana General Hospital, Nellore among 100 Women who are the primary caregiver of psychiatric patient, who were selected by simple random sampling technique. Data was collected using a toll with two parts. The I part consists of socio demographic variables and the II part has modified women abuse screening tool.
The study showed that among the 100 female care giver 8(8%) were not abusive,20(20%) were potentially abusive,72(72%) are in abusive relationship.
