The Relation between Depression and Functional Outcome in Chronıc Period Stroke Patients

Abstract


 

Objective: A aim was to evaluate the effect of depression on functional outcome of patients at six months following stroke.

Materials And Method: Seventy cases were taken to study to measure the degreee of cognitive impairment Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE), to determine the degree of depression using Beck Depression Evaluation BDE) and to evaluate functional disability using Functional Independence Scale (FIS).

Results: In 33 (46%) cases, depression was determined. There was no statistical difference between the cases having depression and not having depression in terms of gender, education, monthly income and marital status (p>0.05).  Between the groups there was no statistical difference in terms of disease duration, lesion type, lesion side and FIS cognitive (p
