INFECTIVITY OF SCHISTOSOMA HAEMATOBIUM MIRACIDIA FOR THREE SUCCESSIVE GENERATIONS OF BULINUS TRUNCATUS SNAILS

Nahed MM. Ismail, Nawal H. Haroun, Hanaa M. Abu-El-Einin.

Abstract

Comparison of the susceptibility of three successive generations from the negative Bulinus truncatus of both laboratory breeding and field snails to Schistosoma haematobium infection was studied. The infection rate of the three successive generations increased in the laboratory breeding snails. It reached to 27.7%, 62.5%, and 71.6% in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd generations respectively. In contrast, field snails recorded the lowest rate (38%) during the 3rd generation. The differences between infection rate of both laboratory and field snails at 3rd generation was highly significant (P
