EFFECT OF ANABAENA SUBCYLINDRICA FILTRATE ON THE GROWTH OF FABA BEAN CULTIVATED IN NON-INFESTED OR INFESTED SOIL BY RHIZOCTONIA SOLANI

Atef M. Abo-Shady.

Abstract

The effect of Anabaena filtrate was studied on the faba bean growth which was grown in either non-infested or infested soil by Rhizoctonia solani. The obtained results showed significant positive relationship between soaking period of faba bean seeds in Anabaena filtrate and their percentage of germination. After 48h soaking period 100% of seeds were germinated. Some growth criteria of faba bean (shoot height and shoot and root weights) were improved by soaking. Also, the filtrate increased root nodulation. These improve in growth criteria by A. filtrate caused greater seed productivity without any change in seed protein and carbohydrate contents. On the other hand the filtrate increased shoot and root protein and carbohydrate contents. The filtrate led to a notable decrease in the pre-emergance of the faba bean R. solani damping-off disease and its effect on the plant growth and productivity criteria.

Key words: Anabaena subcylindrica, faba bean, Rhizoctonia solani, germination, growth criteria.
