The topicality of the studied problem is due to the pressing need to improve the strategic management of gas companies so that it can pursue not only their strategic goals as such but reflect the means of reaching them through the lens of the development of their structural divisions and units. This article aims to acquaint the scientific community with the instruments of gas companies strategic management using balanced scorecards.The suggested approach will help top managers of parent companies as well as those of their business segmentto deeper understand the organizationís strategies checking the rightness of their path towards their goals and enable each particular employee to see the influence his official functions have on the common success of the company.Using comparison and systematization of Gazprom PJSC consolidated financial accounts as well as the long-term development programme of the company, its bylaws devoted to strategic planning by key performance indicators, the authors broadened and specified the list of production and economic indicators typical for gasproducing companies to recommend it for use in planning and controlling of gas companies strategies. The suggested balanced scorecard enables to see more accurate interdependence of the general results of a company
to specific figures of its particular producing unit.The study resulted in a gas sector company strategic management algorithm requiring implementation of a multi-level balanced scorecard as the principal strategic planning and controlling instrument. Practical approbation of the method by comparison analysis of planned and actual figures in 2015-2016 at the level of Gazprom Dobycha Urengoy revealed a number of bottlenecks in realisation of overall Gazprom strategy. The article may be useful to top and line managers as well as to scientists and professors studying and teaching strategic management in its application to companies of the fuel and energy sector.
