Nonedible parts of edible Plants have shown to be valuable source of a variety of drugs for human ailments including cancer. Egypt is rich in edible plants most of which have not been investigated for their biological activities. In the continuing effort to screen Egyptian plants for anticancer activity, 18 plants collected from Egyptian market. These plants yielded 18 extracts and were tested for their anticancer activity using four human cancer cell lines, namely HepG2 (hepatocellular carcinoma), MCF-7 (breast adenocarcinoma) and PC3 (Prostate cancer). Out of the 18 methanol extracts tested, 10 demonstrated potential cytotoxic activities on the cancer cells. Regarding the activity on normal cell line only three extracts out of 10 promising have high selectivity index. Persea Americana was considered the most promising extract on test cancer cell lines with IC50 6.43±2.3, 12.5±1.5 and 8.31 ± 2.6 with cell lines MCF7, HepG2 and PC3, respectively.
