Cyanoacrylates have found their forte as an easy to use, fast setting, strong adhesives for a wide variety of applications since 1950. Even though the serendipitous discovery of cyanoacrylate adhesives was at Eastman Kodak Labs, the journey of a cyanoacrylate adhesive towards most widely used adhesive for a variety of application areas has been a result of decades of innovation and hard work by many. This review particularly focuses on the synthesis, chemistry, processing and applications of cyanoacrylate adhesives from a historical perspective to recent advances. Special emphasis is given to industrial, consumer, medical, and forensics applications of cyanoacrylate adhesives. Recent advances in cyanoacrylate adhesives, especially, structuring cyanoacrylate adhesives in the form of nanofibers by using different techniques, and their applications are discussed in detail as well.
