Abstract

Abstract
Objective: To compare postoperative analgesic efficacy between USG guided paravertebral block and peritubal infiltration with 15 ml of 0.25 % bupivacaine in patients undergoing percutaneous nephrolithotomy
Materials and Methods: A prospective, randomized double blind study was conducted in 60 patients undergoing PCNL. Patients were randomly allocated into two equal groups of 30 each. Group P(30) received thoracic paravertebral block (T9-T10, T10-T11, T11-T12) with 15 ml of 0.25% Bupivacaine. (3ml at each level). Group T(30) received peritubal infiltration with 15 ml of 0.25% Bupivacaine.
Results: Age, ASA grading, and duration of surgery, calculi position and size, access tract and success rate were comparable between the two groups. VAS scores at 0, 2, 4, and 8 hrs were found to be significantly lower in group P than Group T [P value
