Association of depression and physical activity with preeclampsia and gestational diabetes mellitus

Abstract

Objective: To determine the association of depression and physical activity with preeclampsia and gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM).
Methodology: This cross-sectional study included 146 pregnant women of age 18-40 years. The Beck Depression Inventory and Pregnancy Physical Activity Questionnaire were used to collect data. The study was carried out at Railway General Hospital, Rawalpindi and Capital Hospital, Islamabad from July to December 2021.
Results: Out of 146 pregnant females, 78 (53%) were suffering from preeclampsia while other 68 (47%) had GDM. Physical activity during pregnancy had a significant association with GDM and preeclampsia (p< 0.05). Depression and GDM had a non-significant association with p>0.05.
Conclusion: There was a significant association of physical activity with GDM and preeclampsia. Depression was associated non-significantly with preeclampsia.
