Dementia is a chronic or progressive syndromic depiction of diverse pathologies of brain. Alzheimers disease (AD) is the most common form of Senile dementia. Several multi-target therapeutic strategies, being utilized for AD treatment are limited to manage the symptoms only and can lead to some severe side effects. Ayurveda has dedicated a whole branch for management of ageing disorders termed as Rasayana(rejuvenate)-Vajikarana (revitalize). Saraswata Ghrita (SG), a multicomponent traditional formulation is well-known for its use as a memory enhancer. It also confers good speech, intelligence, memory and digestive power. Classical texts of Ayurveda were reviewed in a comprehensive manner and online databases as well as search engines for published researches. On Screening, it was observed that SG is quoted in around fourteen classical treatises. It has been alluded predominantly for its effect on cognitive functions of brain taking Medhya or Smrutivardhaka (memory enhancer) into account. Thus, it can be concluded that whole formulation i.e. Saraswat ghrita can be proven effective in Alzheimers disease.
