EMIGRATION TO USA, UK AND EUROPEAN COUNTRIES FROM INDIA: UNTOLD STORIES OF ILLEGAL MIGRANTS FROM DOABA REGION OF PUNJAB, INDIA

Abstract

Illegal immigration into US, UK and the European countries from India has become very rampant due to the pursuit for better life and living standards. Migration is crossing the borders of a political or administrative unit for a short period of time. The movement can be within a state or across states. In the international relocation there is movement from one nation to the other. Migrations can be for varied reasons some of which are legal, like for work, business etc., and others for illegal purpose like illegal migrants. The present empirical study will explore the routes (both legal and illegal) adopted by individuals for reaching their dream land of opportunities. The study would also focus on the necessity of having legislation for preventing such instances of illegal immigration and examine the plight of such illegal emigrants from Doaba region of Punjab, India.
