Effectiveness of Rocabado approach and Conventional Physiotherapy on pain, ROM and QOL in patients with TMJ dysfunction: Comparative Study

TMDs are considered to be a subclass of the musculoskeletal disorders, so requires physiotherapy
treatment. Till now very few studies have been done show the effectiveness of Rocabado approach and
conventional physiotherapy, so the research aims to compare the effects of same in patients having mild to
moderate TMJ dysfunction.Subjects (n = 60) with TMJ dysfunction will be selected for a comparative study. The
participants will be randomized to either (1) Group A, or (2) Group B. Participants of Group A will receive the
exercise rehab while those of Group B will receive the conventional physiotherapy along with home exercises for
a period of 1 week immediately following baseline assessment. Discussion: The aim of the study is to compare
the effectiveness of Rocabado approach and TENS in the patients having mild to moderate TMJ dysfunction.
Nonetheless, it was proposed that Rocabado exercises are helpful in improving the conditions of TMJ dysfunction
and also with TENS which is helpful in improving the pain related to TMJ dysfunction. To conclude, this research
seeks to explore the effectiveness of Rocabado approach, which is rarely used in the patients with TENS in TMJ
dysfunction patients and also its comparison with TENS in the same population.

Key words: TMJ dysfunction, Rocabado exercises, TENS, Fonseca Questionnaire, NPRS.
