Abstract | | | | BACKGROUND: The principal perspective to massive cystic lesions is uncertain up to present time. The objective of the current study was to evaluate the outcome of decompression prior to enucleative protocol for the large cystic lesions treatment and to correlate the depletion rate of keratocyst odontogenic tumor, dentigerous cyst and ameloblastoma at specific times. (Preoperative and at six-months post-operative).
METHOD: The study incorporated 40 subjects of mean age 31.22±8.78 years having massive mandibular lesions (>3cm). The use of decompression was to release the intraluminal pressure and to decrease the volume of lesion. Three-dimensional computed tomography scan was exercised to the patients at the stage of diagnosis and at six-months after decompression. Volumetric examination was executed using software device for three-dimensional quantification of volumes. The qualitative variable like gender and quantitative variables such as age and reduction rate were also calculated.
RESULTS: There were notable variations in the rates of reduction between initial and 6-month volume of the lesion. No compelling differences were found in the statistical analysis between the groups about age, gender and histological type of lesion. (p>0.05).
Conclusion: Decompression of massive cystic lesion may be effective for surgical intervention beyond complications.
