Types, Applications and Enhancements in Access Control

Abstract

Network Access Control broadly refers to the management of a network with respect to the devices/users that have access to it, and what they have access to. With networks serving as the backbone to all communication at various levels, be it in a private network or one owned by an organization, security of the resources that are accessible via this connection becomes increasingly important. Access control is a major aspect of this security. A powerful access control model inculcates/caters to the requirements of Confidentiality, Integrity and Accessibility. In this paper, we have surveyed the types of access control, network security and the latest schemes/protocols within it and the efficiency of these protocols. Any improvements or loopholes in the existing systems have been noted. Furthermore, we have reviewed the applications of access control in IoT systems.
