POWER FLOW TRACING OF THE NIGERIAN 330-kV TRANSMISSION LINE

Muyideen Olalekan Lawal,Olusola A Komolafe.

Abstract

In a previous work, the power flow tracing of a power network was carried out by identifying the source dominion and common branches for individual generator present in the system. After the identification of the source dominion, the contribution of each generator to the active line flow in all the branches was determined. This present study implements the procedure by developing a program in a MATLAB environment. The developed program has been applied to the 4-bus system used in the previous work for validation of the program. After a satisfactory validation, the program has further been applied to the 34-node Nigerian power network. The results of the tracing have been able to identify the transmission lines responsible for conveying real power generations for individual generating station. The knowledge from this tracing will be useful for transmission pricing and congestion management of the network.

Key words: Power Flow Tracing, Transmission line, MATLAB, Generating Station
