Abstract

This study is concerned with the synthesis and characterization of γ-lactams (3a-3h). γ-Lactams were prepared by reacting phenylsuccinic
anhydride with the appropriate Schiff bases (imines) by heating at 51-61 °C in chloroform with moderate yields (51-75 %). The structures
of these compounds were established on the basis of the spectral studies using IR, 1
H-NMR, 13C-NMR , 13C- NMR DEPT and MS.
