Anaesthetic Management of a Post Guillain-Barre Syndrome Patient Undergoing Oncological Breast Surgery

Syed Raza Mehdi, Abdul Rehman, Sadia Sadaqat Ali.

Abstract

ABSTRACT:
Guillain-Barre syndrome is one of the leading causes of non-trauma induced paralysis in the world. We present the anaesthetic management of a 43-year-old breast cancer female patient who recently suffered from Guillain-Barre syndrome (GBS). The patient had complete motor loss with power of 3/5 in all four limbs and was fully recovered after successful treatment with intravenous immunoglobulin. Keeping in view of the nature of surgery and her clinical condition, breast surgery was planned with Para-vertebral block and target controlled infusion (TCI) sedation along with entropy monitoring. The literature search for the anaesthetic management for such type of cases revealed no common agreement, which prompted us to report this case.

Key words: Key words: Breast cancer, Gullian-Barre syndrome, Regional anaesthesia, Target controlled infusion, Entropy monitoring.
