In a broad sense the term land use pattern means the use of land resources under unusual ecological settings. The pattern of land use of a country at any particular time is determined by the physical, economic and institutional framework taken together. In other words, the existing land use pattern in different regions in India has been evolved as a result of the action and interaction of various factors, such as physical characteristic of land, the institutional framework, the structure of other resources (capital, labour, etc.) available. In addition, the geographical location of the region in relation to other aspects of economic development, viz., those relating to transport, industry, trade, etc. influence the land use pattern.

Key words: Agriculture, land resources, ecological settings
