Determinants of Overweight among Young Adults in Jordan

Abstract

Objectives
To determine the contribution of selected demographic characteristics and dietary
practices in relationship to overweight and obesity in Jordanian young adults.
Subjects and Methods
This cross sectional was conducted during spring 2008 and a total of 278 university
students participated in the study. Data were collected using a questionnaire which
was based on a national dietary survey developed by the Health and Labor Ministry
of Japan.
Results
About 76.2% (n=212) of the students’ weight was within a normal range, 11.9%
(n=33) were underweight and 11.9% (n=30) were excess weight. There was a
