Objective: To compare Interleukin-6 (IL-6) levels with severity of periodontitis and to find the association of Vitamin D Binding Protein (DBP) with Interleukin-6 (IL-6) in healthy controls and periodontitis cases.
Methods: This case control study was conducted at Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS). Periodontal examination was performed according to the probe pocket depth (PPD) and clinical attachment loss (CAL). Serum IL-6 and DBP levels were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA).
Results: Median serum levels of IL-6 were 12.5 (IQR=38.8), 3.5 (IQR=71) and 21.2 (IQR=70.5) ng/l. There was no significant difference in median of IL-6 levels with severity of periodontitis (p>0.05). Statistically significant correlation was observed between DBP and IL-6 levels in cases (r=0.76, p
