Iron deficiency associated with febrile seizures

Abstract

Objective: To determine status of iron deficiency amongst children with febrile seizures (FS).
Methodology: This comparative case control study was conducted from June 2019 to June 2020 at Children Department of Fauji Foundation Hospital, Peshawar, Pakistan. A total of 180 patients were included, 90 in Group-1 with FS and 90 in Group-2 without FS. Hemoglobin, serum ferritin level and mean corpuscular volume were measured in all patients.
Results: In the Group-1, mean age was 24.22+1.35 months whereas in Group-2, mean age was 23.91+1.22months (p=0.1078). In Group-1, the mean hemoglobin (Hb) level, MCV level and serum ferritin level were significantly low in comparison to Group-2 (p
