Methylphenidate and Indomethacin - Induced Visual Hallucination: A Case Report

Kemal Utku Yazici, Ipek Percinel Yazici.

Abstract

Methylphenidate is an effective and safe treatment option that is frequently used for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. Indomethacin is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory that is frequently used for its anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects. In this article, we present a case of a 14 year-old girl with drug-induced psychotic symptoms. The patient previously used methylphenidate and indomethacin separately at different time periods and did not experience any problem. However, psychotic symptoms were observed when the two drugs were used in combination. To our knowledge, this case is the first reported case that demonstrates psychotic side effects as a consequence of methylphenidate and indomethacin co-administration.
