Abstract

Moya Moya disease (MMD) is a rare cerebrovascular occlusive disorder resulting from progressive stenosis of intracranial blood vessels with secondary development of an anastomotic capillary network. The classic paediatric presentation in this disorder is recurrent transient ischaemic attacks (TIA) and /or completed or repeated ischemic strokes. The main stay of treatment includes direct and indirect surgical revascularization procedures. Anaesthetic management of a child with MMD is challenging as intraoperative hypotension, hypercapnia, hypovolemia can result in ischemic stroke. Authors in this report describe successful anaesthetic management of a child with moya moya disease who underwent indirect revascularization procedure.

Key words: Moya moya disease, Ischemia, Stroke, Revascularisation, Hypocapnia
