Abstract

Dengue Fever is a mosquito-borne tropical disease caused by the dengue virus. It is spread by several species of mosquito of the Aedes type, principally Aedesaegypti’. OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY: 1. To assess the knowledge regarding dengue fever among standard 8 and 9 students in pre-test and posst test in experimental and control group. 2. To compare the pre-test and post-test knowledge levels regarding dengue fever among standard 8 and 9 students in experimental and control group. 3. To associate the demographic variables of selected students in the experimental group and control group with the posttest knowledge regarding dengue fever.NULLHYPOTHESES: H01: There is no significant difference in the pretest and post-test knowledge of experimental group. H02: There is no significant difference in the pre-test and post-test knowledge of control group. H03: There is no significant difference of post-test knowledge in between experimental and control group. H04: There is no significant association of posttest knowledge regarding dengue fever with experimental group demographic variables. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The research design was Quasi experimental Non – equivalent control group design.’60’ school students were selected through Non probability purposive sampling technique. RESULTS: The level of knowledge regarding dengue fever among standard 8 and 9 students in pre-test in experimental group 4(13.34%)had inadequate knowledge, 26(86.66%) had moderate knowledge. The level of knowledge regarding dengue fever among standard 8 and 9 students in post-test in experimental group. The level of knowledge in post-test in control group 4(13.34%) had Inadequate knowledge, 26(86.66%) had moderately adequate knowledge and No one 0(0%) had adequate knowledge. CONCLUSION: The study findings indicate that planned health teaching is effective for school students.
