AN EMPIRICAL STUDY ON PROFITABILITY GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT IN SELECTED INDIAN BANKS

Abstract
Purpose – This paper tries to compare the financial performance of four most transacted commercial banks of
India, two from public sector and two from private sector, viz. SBI, PNB, HDFC and ICICI bank.
Design/methodology/approach – This paper adopts the “Mean and Standard Deviation” for evaluating and
comparing the selected commercial banks. The data for the same has been taken from the time period 2011 to
2019.
Findings – This paper represents that HDFC bank has outperformed in all factors viz. income, net profit and
return on net worth among its rival banks and PNB is at lowest rank among these four selected banks.
Scope– This research has been undertaken for the selected four commercial banks of India. The result and
findings may diverse if the study includes more banks or includes data of different years.
Practical implications –This study will help the investors, public, creditors whosoever is interested to do
transaction with the selected commercial bank.
