ANAESTHESIA MANAGEMENT FOR DIALYSIS ASSOCIATED STEAL SYNDROME IN UPPER LIMB

SHAIK MOHAMMAD SHAMIQ MUTHAIB,srivani kondle,KRISHNA CHAITHANYA KANDHUKURI.

Abstract

Dialysis-associated steal syndrome is also known as distal hypoperfusion ischemic syndrome. The steal syndrome describes arterial insufficiency in the upper limb's skin and soft tissues beyond a hemodialysis fistula. The steal phenomenon is common in dialysis but rarely leads to symptoms.
Anaesthesiologists' challenge is to choose between General anesthesia and Regional Anaesthesia ,because of anticipated difficult airway and other effects of General Anaesthesia like polypharmacy, and the delayed recovery, we have chosen ultrasound-guided brachial plexus supraclavicular block. Regional anaesthesia in these patients is a great challenge due to hyperemia and limb edema. It was difficult to identify the structures in ultrasound due to high vascularity..

Key words: Dialysis-associated steal syndrome,USG supraclavicular block,hyperemia
