Objective: To assess patient satisfaction six months after total knee arthroplasty (TKA) in obese females.
Methodology: This descriptive study was conducted at Ghurki Trust Teaching Hospital, Lahore from August 2018 to January 2019. Fifty one female patients six months following TKA, with a BMI of 30 kg/m2and above were included using convenience sampling. Self-Administered Patient Satisfaction (SAPS) questionnaire was used by interview method and patients were asked to grade their level of satisfaction for each question.
Results: We found that 84.3% were very satisfied, 9.8% were somewhat satisfied, 3.9% were somewhat dissatisfied and 2% were very dissatisfied with their surgery. When asked about pain relief, 82.4% were very satisfied, 9.8% were somewhat satisfied, 3.9% were somewhat dissatisfied and 3.9% were very dissatisfied. The reported satisfaction was comparatively low for ability to do home or yard (65%) work and leisure activities (53%).
Conclusion: Though obesity may be considered as a risk factor for complications following TKA, most of the obese females were satisfied with their surgery, irrespective of their high BMI.
