VICTIMIZATION, ISSUES OF IDENTITY AND LAND ALIENATION OF BODOS: A STUDY OF BODO–SANTHAL CONFLICT (1996 AND 1998)

Abstract
In heterogeneous societies, the chances of conflict are at the peak as all (both majority and minority) desire to shield their own identity from being alienated. In diving societies, ethnic groups face security dilemmas within the state; whereby people fear other ethnic groups within the country and therefore choose to prepare for conflict over the state. In many cases, ethnicity is mobilized and manipulated to gain power; in which opportunism, economic resentment, and economic gain can be considered as the prime explanation for ethnic conflict.
The paper tries to explain the issues of identity crisis, land alienation and victimization of Bodos during the time of Bodo-Santhal conflict (1996 and 1998). The research has been based on historical, descriptive and analytical methods to understand the problems towards the security and land rights of Bodos due to Bodo-Santhal clash. Research method is comprised of both primary and secondary sources. The study will help in better understanding of the Bodo-Santhal problems and its impact on the identity and land rights of Bodos.
