Satisfaction of patients with surgical and orthopedic out-patient department of Dow University Hospital, Karachi, Pakistan

Abstract

Objective: To find out patient satisfaction with the Surgical and Orthopedic Outpatient Department of Dow University Hospital, a tertiary care teaching hospital.
Methodology: From May to July 2012, patients attending outpatient department of general surgery and orthopedic specialty of Dow University Hospital, Karachi were included after taking informed consent. The Concise Outpatient Department User Satisfaction Scale which is a valid and reliable tool was used to measure patient satisfaction.
Results: A total of 207 patients, 89 (43%) males and 118 (57%) females were included in this study. Consultation time scored maximum with a mean ± SD score 9.87 ± 6.42 and waiting time scored minimum with a mean ± SD of 6.44 ± 1.89. No significant differences were found between genders.
Conclusion: Patient satisfaction level was overall good with the Surgery Outpatient and Orthopedic outpatient department usage.
