Owning up the mistakes: Narratives of an Ayurvedic Physician

Dr Zankhana Buch.

Abstract

I feel that we ought to do something about a piece of the culture of practice of medicine that needs to change. It may start with just one physician, and I offer this to be me. This is about being human, liable to make mistakes and yet having courage to own them up. Maybe, I’ve been around long enough that I can afford to give away some of my false prestige to be able to do that. What we do though is we send each one of them, including myself, out
into the world with the admonition to be perfect. Never ever, ever make a mistake, but you worry about the details, about how that’s going to happen. And that was the message I absorbed when I was in Ayurveda School.

Key words: Culture In Medicine, Ayurveda, Mistakes
