Objective: To evaluate the dosimetric effectiveness of Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy (VMAT) in head and neck cancer (HNC) patients, specifically focusing on optimizing tumor coverage while sparing critical organs at risk (OAR), such as the cochlea, to minimize functional toxicity.
Methodology: This retrospective study analyzed VMAT plans for nine male HNC patients (aged 50–60). Treatment plans were generated using the Monaco system with the Monte Carlo algorithm. Target coverage and OAR dose constraints (cochlea, optic chiasm, and larynx) were evaluated using dose-volume histograms.
Results: VMAT demonstrated high-quality planning, achieving excellent target coverage (98.79%±1.13). Doses to critical structures remained within clinical tolerances: mean cochlear dose
