Objective: To evaluate the effect of heel raise exercises on improving ankle–brachial index values in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Methodology: This quantitative quasi-experimental study, used a two-group pretest-posttest with a control group. The sampling technique used purposive sampling. Bivariate analysis was conducted to prove the research hypothesis, namely that there is an effect of heel raises exercise on the Ankle Brachial Index value.

Results: The average Ankle Brachial Index value before the heel raises exercise was 0.8039 (range 0.63-1.09). The average Ankle Brachial Index value after the intervention was 1.14129, (range 0.91-1.30). In the control group, the average Ankle Brachial Index before was 0.8182, (range 0.71-1.14). The average Ankle Brachial Index value after was 0.8806, (range 0.71- 1.14. Heel raises exercise significantly improved Ankle Brachial Index values in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (p=0.007).

Conclusion: There is an effect of Heel Raises Exercise on increasing the ankle brachial index value in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus patients.

Key words: Diabetes Mellitus Type 2, Ankle Brachial Index, Heel Raises Exercise.
