Aim and Background: Although eye infections are rather frequent, they pose a serious risk to one's eyesight and should be treated immediately. Bacteria in the air can contaminate the entire eye. However, T cells also contribute to the production of IL-18, another pro-inflammatory cytokine that is also part of the IL-1 superfamily and is mostly made by macrophages. has pleiotropic effects, meaning it can affect and activate several cell types. The protein known as Tumor Necrosis Factor alpha TNFα is involved in cell signalling. While activated macrophages are the primary cells responsible for its production, several other cell types, including T cell (helper cells), Natural killer cells, neutrophil , mast cells, and eosinophil, are capable of doing so as well.the study aim to see the role of interlukine in eye infection .Methods: From September 2020 through March 2021, 89 tear eye swabs were collected from patients with bacterial eye infections who were treated at the Al-Imam Al-Sadiq Hospital in Babylon, the Ibn Al-Haitham Teaching Eye Hospital in Baghdad, and the Specialized ophthalmology clinics in Babylon. were collection from healthy persons as control samples .Results: immunological parameters interleukin18 (IL-18) and (TNFα) were determined in tear by ELISA The mean of IL-18 concentration in tear of patient was 148.10±5.91pg/ml while control was 108.34±14.52*pg/ml there significantly. The mean of TNF- α concentration in tear of patient was 766.28±37.84 pg/ml while control was 530.47±89.99*pg/ml there significantly .The study has shown elevated points of inflammatory cytokines such as IL18, and TNFα in the tear film of patients.
Key words: Eye, IL-18, (TNF)-α, tear film.
