MULTIPLE ANTICOUNTERFEIT TECHNOLOGIES TO COMBAT COUNTERFEITING IN PHARMA INDUSTRY: AN OVERVIEW

Abstract

Growths of international free trade and inadequate drug regulation have led to the expansion of trade in counterfeit drugs worldwide. The problems related to safety, quality of medicine and efficacy is to measure concern in today developing scenario in develop and developing countries. This counterfeiting is overcome by technological protection. A variety of technologies came into existence like covert, overt, and track and trace technologies. This review is mainly focus on the ideal technological characteristics, existing anti-counterfeit technologies, and their adoption in different countries. The Indian government is getting sensitized about the extent of the problem and has formulated rules mandating barcodes. This counterfeit medicine can be identified by using various anti-counterfeit packaging techniques such as 2D barcodes, holograms and RFID.
