“Effectiveness of laughter therapy in reducing depression among elderly at selected old age homes, Bangalore.”

Abstract

study was conducted to assess the effectiveness of Laughter therapy on depression among
elderly in selected old age home, Bangalore. The objective of the study was to assess the level of depression
after Laughter therapy and to evaluate the effectiveness of Laughter therapy by comparing the pre and
post-test level of depression among elderly. Sixty samples were selected by using non-probability purposive
sampling technique. The data was collected using Beck’s depression inventoryconsisted of 21
questions.Laughter therapy intervention was done for the total sample. In pre-test, though the groups
showed hardly any variation, in post-test the group displayed a considerable downscale level of depression
after the therapy. The overall mean posttest level of depression was less than the overall mean pre-test level
of depression (15.6
