Professional Issues in Physical Therapy Fields: Core Values and Expert’s Critical Analysis

Abstract

The objective of the present study is to educate physical therapy professionals with the core values in their field to set a framework that guide them during their everyday practice. The expert in the field Prof. Dr. El-gohary; who has over 25 years of academic, clinical and practical experience with robust background of culture competence through practicing at different countries, was invited to critically analyze the core values using didactic model supported with life examples. Large number of core values including but is not limited to Altruism, Competence, Excellence, Accountability, Integrity, Honesty, Self-regulation, Team Working, Professional Duty, and Responsibility to Society. Results showed that about 97% of the participants did not have clear understanding of the meaning behind different core values. More than 94% of participants indicated that that they have the intention to strive for excellence but without clear roadmap to pursue. In conclusion, the physical therapy programs must prepare graduates to adopt a life-long education to distinguish themselves among others for the best interest of patients/clients, the profession and the society.
