IMPROVED RATIO-TYPE ESTIMATOR BY USING UNKNOWN WEIGHT

Singh, R.V.K., Omofoye P. B., Babayemi, A.W., Ahmed, A..

Abstract

Ratio type estimator has been proposed by using unknown constant to estimate population mean of the characteristic under study. The bias and the MSE of the proposed estimator have been derived up to the first order of approximation. Theoretically, the efficiency of the proposed estimator has been compared with sample mean estimator and a condition was found under which the proposed estimator is better than sample mean estimator. Also, the accuracy of proposed estimator was compared with usual ratio type estimator and supported by a numerical illustration.

Key words: Ratio estimator, unknown weight, bias, MSE, efficiency.
