Isyaku, N. T., Umar, A., Ukatu, V. E., Singh, R., Dauda, A.. Abstract | | | | The research was carried out to determine the prevalence and intensity of adult Ascaridia galli of chickens slaughtered in Aleiro, Kebbi State, Nigeria. A total of 200 Local chickens (Gallus gallus) were obtained from 4 different sites in Aliero Metropolis in August, 2012. The intestinal contents of these birds were examined for the presence of Adult Ascaridia galli with the aid of a forceps and hand lens. Results of investigation show that 116 (58%) of the 200 chickens were found to be infected. Out of the 116 positive samples, 55 (47%) were of low infection (1-7 worms/ bird), 31 (27%) with moderate infection (8-20 worms/ bird) and 30(26%) with severe infection (21 - 50 worms/ bird). This finding has thus called for immediate massive deworming of chickens in Aleiro and education of poultry farmers on effective farm managements to reduce the infestations rates.
