HEAVY METALS CONTENT IN PACKAGED SACHET WATER WITH NAFDAC REGISTRATION NUMBERS MARKETED IN SOKOTO METROPOLIS

Sachet water or "pure water", as they are called can become hazardous to the consumer/people when it becomes contaminated by heavy metals, at source, during production, processing or preparation. In the light of this and because of their high consumption rate in the society, ten brands of packaged water were selected from different area of Sokoto metropolis and analyzed for chernical characteristic using atomic absorption spectrophotometer (AAS). The result shows that none of the brands of water analyzed completely met the WHO guideline limits for drinking Water. The need for proactive surveillance by regulatory agencies is advocated.
