PREVALENCE OF OBESITY AMONG SCHOOL CHILDREN IN NTR NAGAR AT NELLORE

Abstract

Obesity is the medical condition in which excess fat has accumulated to the extent that it
may be having a negative effect on health. People are generally considered obese when their body mass
index is over 30 kg/m2. Objectives: 1. To assess the prevalence of obesity among school children. 2. To
find out association between the prevalence of obesity among school children with their selected socio
demographic variables. Materials and Methods: The researcher was used quantitative research approach
with Descriptive research design. The 100 samples were selected by using Non-probability convenience
sampling technique to assess the prevalence of obesity among school children in NTR Nagar at Nellore.
Data was analyzed by using descriptive and inferential statistics. The results revealed that with regards to
prevalence of obesity among school children 27(27%) are underweight, 40(40%) are normal, 29(29%)
were overweight and 4 (4%) were obese.
