Awareness of the general population regarding diabetes mellitus skin manifestations in Taif City, Saudi Arabia

Objective: This study aimed to assess public awareness of diabetes-related cutaneous manifestations and the prevalence of self-reported skin complications among individuals with diabetes.
Methods: An analytical cross-sectional online survey was conducted in Taif City between August and November 2024. A pretested 22-item questionnaire was distributed to 400 adult residents. Items covered sociodemographic characteristics, diabetes status, history of skin problems, and knowledge of general and specific diabetes-related skin conditions (dry skin, bulla diabeticorum, tinea pedis).
Results: Over half of participants (51.9%, n = 266) were unaware of diabetes-related skin manifestations, 41.1% (n = 211) demonstrated partial knowledge, and only 7.0% (n = 36) showed excellent awareness. The mean knowledge score was 3.0 (out of 13). Age (p-value=0.038) and gender (p
