Management of open abdomen (laparostomy) – our experience

Abstract

Laparostomy is a surgical treatment method in which the peritoneal cavity is opened anteriorly and deliberately method in which the peritoneal cavity is opened anteriorly and deliberately left open,hence often called open abdomen.The term does not include full -thickness abdominal wall defect resulting from partial excision due to tumor or necrotizing infection,or incisional hernias.In our Department surgical Gastroenterology of Narayana Medical College and Hospital, we managed six cases of open abdomen over a period of two years between November 2015 and November 2017.
In this article we present our experience of six patients of open abdomen through laparostomy.
