Objectives: To determine outcomes of Tumescent liposuction (TL) for gynecomastia.
Methodology: This descriptive observational prospective study was carried out at Yusra Teaching Hospital, Islamabad, Pakistan from January 1, 2014 to June 30, 2017. Seventy two male breasts (39 patients) undergoing TL were studied. Both genders were included with symptomatic gynecomastia, failed medical treatment or idiopathic with age range of 21-70 years and BMI>25 kg/m2. All patients with comorbid conditions were excluded. Same standard perioperative care was maintained for all patients. The various cohort characteristics and outcomes were observed. The data was analyzed by SPSS version 24.
Results: The mean age of the patients was 27.43±7.53 years. The mean duration of symptoms was 8.90±3.73 years. Thirty three patients were operated for bilateral gynecomastia. Minor complications like seroma and hematoma were seen in 7 (9.72%) while only one major complication was hematoma which was evacuation under anesthesia. The level of satisfaction after six months of surgery was 4.23±0.78.
Conclusion: TL for gynecomastia had good outcomes and satisfaction level.
