Assessment of public knowledge and awareness of Guillain-Barré syndrome in Makkah, Saudi Arabia

Objective: This study aimed to assess the level of awareness and knowledge regarding Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) among the general population in Makkah, Saudi Arabia.
Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted using a self-administered online questionnaire adapted from previously validated instruments. The survey was disseminated through social media platforms over three months and targeted adults aged 18 years and older.
Results: A total of 540 participants completed the survey, of whom 56.9% were female. The most represented age group was 18–24 years (45.4%). Overall, only 25.2% of participants reported being aware of GBS. Awareness was significantly higher among individuals working in the medical field (61.8%, p
