Polymorphism among some bread wheat (Triticum aestivum) cultivars in Iraq using SDS-PAGE for total seed proteins as a biochemical marker

Attyaf Jameel Thamir Al-Tamimi, Zeina Thamer Abdul Hussein ALrufaye.

Abstract

This study was conducted to reveal polymorphism among seven wheat cultivars which in future facilitate fingerprinting and crop improvement. Twenty main bands were produced ranged in their molecular size (7.9 - 67.9 KDa), out of them were 15 monomorphic, three polymorphic and two were unique. Low polymorphism reached 15% observed using SDS-PAGE of total seed proteins. Distinctive fingerprint was given for all studied cultivars except Sham6 and Tamuz 3.

Key words: Wheat, Seed protein, SDS-PAGE
