Effect of supervised exercise on sleep deprivation and quality of life in patients with depression

Objective: To determine the effects of exercise on sleep deprivation and quality of life in patients with depression
Methodology: This randomized control trial was conducted in Pakistan Railway Hospital, Rawalpindi, Pakistan and included 90 patients recruited through purposive sampling. Patients were then assigned randomly into 3 groups; treadmill (n=30), stretching (n=30) and control group (n=30). Treatment was given for three days per week for up to 6 weeks. Beck Depression Inventory(BDI), Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index(PBSQI), Quality of life Enjoyment & Satisfaction Questionnaire, and Human Cortisol ELISA Kit were used as main outcome tools . Data analysis was performed by using SPSS version 20.
Results: Out of 90 patients, 75(83.3%) were female and 15(67.7%) were male. Mean age was 39.22±10.73 years. Significant improvements were noted for BDI, PBSQI and Quality of life Enjoyment & Satisfaction Questionnaire between the groups (P
