Incidence of Cancer at Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences Hospital, Jamshoro from 2010-2016: A retrospective study

Abstract

Objective: To explore the incidence of cancer at Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences, Hospital, Jamshoro from 2010-2016.
Methodology: The Hospital admission registers were reviewed to collect data of all cancer cases. Data were statistically computed to evaluate the incidence of cancer.
Results: A total 10303 cancer cases were registered during 2010-2016. The higher incidence was found in males. The incidence of intestinal, thyroid, hypopharynx and esophageal cancers was higher in females. The month June and 2015 year revealed the highest incidence whereas 2010 showed the lowest incidence. Among males, the age group of 45-59 years followed by 30-44 years showed highest incidence for all cancers whereas reverse was true for females. The breast cancer was frequently observed in females.
Conclusion: Overall cancer cases among males showed the highest incidence than females from 2010-2016 years with most effected age groups of 45-59 years and 30-44 years. The breast cancer was most frequent among females.
